A custom guide to Amherst, Northampton and the Pioneer Valley for Media Giraffe Project attendees

The event kicks off the Independence Day weekend, and we plan to package a variety of opportunities for post-conference touring of New England for attendees who wish to linger through July 4. The Five Colleges area of Massachusetts offers a remarkable combination of sophisticated, urban amenities amid rural beauty and is less than two hours from Boston. Access is via the Bradley International Airport (BDL), Providence or Boston.

UMass Amherst sits on the [eastern edge of the Connecticut River Valley bordered by rolling hills. It is an area for bicycle touring, easy hikes and vistas, historical, cultural, entertainment and museum options. Besides Amherst itself, the adjacent small city of Northampton is brimming with restaurants and shops. Events are coordinated year-round by Five Colleges Inc. Some pre-/post-summit options include:
