Digital learning summit
From Media Giraffe Wiki
Use this page to contribute to outlining an agenda for a Tues., Dec. 12, 2006, continuing discussion about the impact of multimedia, digital information resources on education and learning.
What sort of a grant application could we put together around a summit that would explicitly bring together students, journalists, technologists, political strategists and educators to report on the impact and use of digital multimedia technology and social media on they way we (especially teen-agers) learn?
DRAFT STRATEGIC PLAN
Mission
- What do we want to accomplish?
- Link students and educators with journalists, technologists, public-policy folks.
- Understand how the practice of democracy is affected by digital/multimedia technology
- Conduct "open-space" training workshops for students/teachers/technologists
- Hear about any research in the area
Methods
- What methods might we use?
- Conference/summit at UMass ("MGP2007") or MassMoCA?
Time frame
- August, 2007?
- Consideration of pre-event working
- What are follow-up initiatives that make this more than a conference?
Grant Finding Preparation
- Determine Goals of Program
- Are they measurable?
- Will grantors find them exciting?
- How do these outcomes enhance the lives of our target audience?
- Find private foundations/donors who support these goals at the $50,000 level
- MacArthur Foundation
- Ford Foundation
- Smaller, media-savvy family foundations
- Media-related corporations
- Develop a one-page concept paper to shop around to foundations
- Make contact with program officers
- Make appointments for face-to-face meetings
- Apply via open competition or RFP if necessary
