She and her husband, former writers for the St. Louis Post Dispatch, are presently engaged in starting a local online newspaper. The model that they are following seems to me to be very similar to the one we will be discussing at the conference. Margaret had not checked out the info on this so I told her about the Media Giraffe model. She said that they hope to be up and running by late fall. They definitely see the need for quality local journalism that will investigate issues such as economic developing, environmental concerns and local politics. A sidelight will be reports on new medical technologies because there is a lot of interesting research going on now on this, in St. Louis. I on the other hand live near Leesburg, VA and am a contributing writer to a local paper there. We have ten local papers in our area and they do cover these topics.
