The idea is to make this invible community visibile in a digital media production hub.

1) We want to bring people out of the woodwork.

2) We also want to create a center with production facilities, particularily a high end facility.

3) Third is the educational compenent, bridging the gap between education and career and creating a digital literate work force.

Our first meeting focused on space, and there Chris Anderson (AS220) stepped forward with a location for us. WIth generous support from the RI Foundation we are opening soon.

AN INVITATION: Join Feb. 20 in setting three priorities for next six months; meet steering committee; hear release of final Digital City RI report: “Going Digital: Business and Education Strategies for a 21st Century Rhode Island.”

The public is invited to attend an important Digital City RI event on Thurs., Feb. 20 from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. at DC206, a new co-work space located at 131 Washington St., in the Mercantile Building, in Providence.

On Feb. 20 in Providence, we’ll:

  • Release publicly our final report, “Going Digital: Business and Education Strategies for a 21st-Century Rhode Island.”
  • Announce formation and membership of a Digital City Rhode Island steering committee.
  • Set plans for achieving within six months three opportunities we all identified at the Founders’ League.

THREE OPPORTUNITIES

1. Visibility Project: Imagine the Digital Future

    • Concept 1.1: Create a promotional video that explains the power of digital media in the lives of all Rhode Islanders using a series of short 90-second video segments that feature existing programs initiatives in formal and informal learning

2. Convenings/ Events

    • Concept 2.1: Develop a shared calendar to maximize synergy in what’s already happening in RI.
    • Concept 2.2 Host a series of monthly events to build awareness of community talents and create networking opportunities
    • Concept 2.3: Host an annual collaborative event where digital education initiatives in RI are showcased

3. Collaboration Network

    • Concept 3.1: Develop a strategy for integrating membership database with updates on current projects.

How can you help with those three key initiatives – visibility, convening, collaborationyou’re your school, business, organization or colleagues can help, don’t wait until Feb. 20 to stick your hand up – please email or phone us right away so we can start organizing!
