RETURN TO EVENT HOMEPAGE / HOW TO PARTICIPATE
HOW TO GET YOUR IDEA HEARD
One goal of NewsTools2008 is to give voice to innovative info-tech ideas
and projects which have the potential to change and sustain journalism and
participatory democracy. But we are challenged to avoid turning our time
together into a series of trade-show like presentations.
So, if you are part of a group with an idea that "wants to be heard," here are
your options:
- 1) Go to the NewsTools2008 topics page and post a breakout topic proposal.
Include your name and contact information. There is some optimum number of
breakouts -- more than five or six and perhaps less than 20 -- that will
lead to effective conversations during the time we have. In addition,
there will likely be additional breakouts called by participants "on the
fly" during the event itself. So give thought to trying to merge your idea
into an already-proposed convening. That's why it's important to include
your contact information -- so others can work to collaborate with you. A
few weeks before April 30, NewsTools2008 organizers will look over the
posted topics and make suggestions for themes and connections which might
lead to merging some breakouts.
- 2)Go to the NewsTools2008 JournTech Expo page, and post a request to
establish a "JournTech Expo" booth for Saturday morning, May 3. This will
be your pre-assigned "street corner" within our meeting venue where for a
period of a couple of hours you can present your idea or meet with
interested NewsTools2008 participants. Because space is limited, we're
asking the Northern California chapter of the Society of Professional
Journalists to help "jury" requests for a booth. As a fund-raiser for SPJ,
there will be a small charge, payble to SPJ.
