Pamela E. As a newspaper reporter for 10 years, she won scores of Society of Professional Journalists and other awards, and was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. At TSU she motivates students by focusing on their journalism freedoms and responsibilities and has written extensively about administrators' unethical attempts at mandatory prior review in such articles as "Grambling Adviser Should Just Say No.  Under Foster's advisement since 1998, Tennessee State University's The Meter student newspaper and Tennessean yearbook have won 105 awards in various competitions, including the HBCU best twice-a-week newspaper and best Web site, Associated Collegiate Press Online Pacemaker finalist and American Scholastic Press Association second-place yearbook.

She has earned numerous fellowships from such entities as the Dow Jones Newspaper Fund, Scripps Howard, the World Journalism Institute, and the Freedom Forum First Amendment Center.  She also serves as a board member of the National Scholastic Press Associationand the Black College Communication Association, a member of College Media Advisers, a judge for the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi Awards, a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and an honorary member of the Golden Key International Honour Society among her many civic and professional duties.
