RETURN TO NewsTools2008 program



PRELIMINARY AGENDA FOR Saturday, May 3 -- SPJ/NewsTools2008

Purpose: Provide the time and space to:

  • Take the NewsTools2008 design/build work further
  • Connect with more regional working journalists
  • Share concept/design/build results with others

Today represents a joining of two rivers involving both journalists and technologists.

Project work continues

  • Those NewsTools2008 participants who still have work to do on their concept/design/build projects from Thursday and Friday can resume their work in the Yahoo center. This projects, initiatives and seedling companies can continue hacking.

The JournaTech Expo

Afternoon workshops, panels, seminars

  • After lunch, SPJ will convene two sets of workshops, panels or seminars on journalism/media topics relevant to the region. The SPJ program specifics will begin to be posted during February.

Briefings and the next steps

  • At day's end, SPJ, NewsTools and Expo participants will all gather for final briefings and next-step announcements from the NewsTools2008 project workers.

One-day registration available soon

NewsTools2008.org participants are automatically enrolled in the day; a one-day registration (including box lunch) for Saturday will be available soon from SPJ.

8:30-9:00 a.m. -- Continental breakfast and networking

9:30-10 a.m. -- Morning announcements

  • Schedule/locate any design/build breakouts continuing from Friday
  • Announce names/locations within room of JournaTech Expo exhibitors

10 a.m.-12:00 p.m. -- Breakouts/expo underway

12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m. -- Box lunch service/networking; SPJ keynote

1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. --- First SPJ panel breakouts

2:30 p.m.-3:00 p.m. -- Snacks and networking

3:00 p.m.-4:30 p.m. -- Second SPJ panel breakouts

4:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. -- NewsTools2008 project reports / next steps

5:30 p.m. -- NewsTools2008 ends / SPJ meeting ends.
