Minnesota daily subject of news-council complaint

The Minneapolis Star Tribune was cited in a complaint filed with the Minnesota News Council the week of July 23 -- but not for a published story. A candidate for attorney general complained about questions which Star Tribune reporters posed in an email during their fact-gathering for a unpublished story. Gary Gilson, director of the News Council, said he declined to accept the complaint for investigation because it did not deal with published material. However, the subject of the complaint was reported in the rival St. Paul Pioneer Press and now the Star Tribune's editor has blogged (once) and (twice) about the entire affair, and the paper has publishd a story.
